Redbridge School Streets Case Study

The London Borough of Redbridge, in partnership with Citisense, launched an ambitious School Streets project to improve air quality, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety for school communities. School Streets temporarily restrict traffic around schools during peak hours, encouraging active travel and reducing pollution. With 21 School Streets already in place, Redbridge sought to expand the initiative through a data-driven, community-focused approach. The collaboration between Redbridge Council and Citisense was key to achieving this, ensuring effective consultation, efficient decision-making, and cost-effective delivery.

The Redbridge School Streets project showcases best practice in collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and cost-effective delivery. Through a structured, transparent process, Redbridge Council and Citisense successfully expanded School Streets while maintaining strong community support. The project provides a scalable, efficient model for sustainable transport initiatives, setting a new standard for future collaboration between local authorities and specialist partners. Lessons learned will inform future School Street expansions and other borough-wide active travel initiatives.
